Kuro is a beautiful young female Shiba Inu with a gentle heart and a quiet, loving spirit that is beginning to shine a little brighter every day.
Born October 9, 2024, this spayed female Shiba weighs approximately 27 pounds and is microchipped and house and crate trained. She came to Shiba Saviors as part of a group of three dogs that we are told had been surrendered from a breeder home, though it seems she may have been a pet.
Kuro is not yet available for adoption, but we hope she will be soon. Right now, we are working with her on gentle exposure, confidence building, and helping her learn that the world outside of what she knew before can be safe. We are also working to build out her profile as we learn more about her.
She is very nervous, but she is also very loving.
She does come out of her shell with encouragement, and every day we see more of the young, playful, affectionate dog underneath the fear. She does like to remove stuffing from toys, which is fine, as long as she is monitored.
Kuro is 100% non-aggressive. Even when she is scared, she does not try to hurt anyone. Her fear responses are more likely to look like freezing, pancaking, or needing reassurance.
She needs patience, kindness, and people who understand that confidence cannot be forced.
Kuro is incredibly gentle.
She is nervous and unsure in new situations, but underneath that fear is a very sweet young dog who wants to trust and wants to be loved.
She has shown no aggression. Her response to uncertainty is not to lash out. It is to freeze, pancake, or wait for someone safe to help guide her through the moment.
With gentle encouragement, Kuro begins to soften. She accepts affection, leans into comfort, and shows more of her playful side as she feels safer.
Every day, her lovingness improves. Every day, she gets a little braver.
Kuro walks well on a leash overall, but loud noises, sudden movement, or uncertain experiences can still overwhelm her.
When that happens, she may pancake and stop moving while she processes what is happening around her. This is not stubbornness. It is fear.
We are currently working with her through positive exposure so she can learn that new places, new sounds, and new routines are not automatically dangerous.
She is improving every day with continued exposure and patient handling.
Kuro is young, playful, and capable of blossoming beautifully in the right home.
Kuro was owner surrendered to someone else, who then surrendered three dogs to Shiba Saviors.
She lived in a breeder home, but she does not appear to have been bred herself. One of the three surrendered dogs was a breeding female, and another was the male.
Because of her background, Kuro is still learning normal household routines, independent confidence, and safe exposure to the outside world.
Kuro arrived with two other dogs, and the three are bonded.
That said, we believe they will likely be okay separated. We are now crating them separately and walking them independently from one another, and Kuro is already learning to function with more independence.
She may enjoy another calm, stable dog in the home, but she also needs people committed to helping her build her own confidence rather than relying only on another dog for security.
Kuro is not a bold, pushy dog. She is soft, observant, and careful.
She is the kind of dog who may need a little time before she shows you who she really is, but the moments when she chooses trust are incredibly special.
She is gentle with people, sweet in her interactions, and steadily becoming more affectionate as she learns she is safe.
For someone who loves watching a fearful dog bloom, Kuro will be deeply rewarding.
Kuro would likely do best in:
Kuro is a definite flight risk.
She should always be leashed outside unless she is inside a very well secured area. She should not be left outside unsupervised, even in a fenced yard.
Fearful Shibas can move fast when startled, and Kuro is still learning how to handle loud noises and unexpected experiences.
Her adopter must take leash safety, secure fencing, and GPS tracking seriously.
Kuro does not need to be forced into bravery.
She needs patience.
She needs kindness.
She needs steady people who will help her experience the world without overwhelming her.
She is very gentle, very sweet, and very much worth the time it will take to help her feel safe.
In the right home, Kuro has the potential to become an incredibly loving companion. Not because someone pushed her past her fear, but because someone loved her carefully enough to help her grow through it.
All Shiba Saviors adoptions require active GPS tracking.
Adopters receive a complimentary FI Mini device and six months of service. A $20 activation fee applies.
